Overweight pets tend to live shorter lives and endure more complications due to their excess weight.

Problems for both cats and dogs:

  • Healthy lean dogs can live up to 15% (about 1.8 years) longer than overweight dogs

  • Onset of chronic old-age diseases is delayed in healthy lean dogs

  • Obese pets are more difficult to examine and therefore find abnormalities

    • The layers of fat make it difficult to listen to the chest and palpate the abdomen, among other issues
